Oliver Smith of Guitarsmiths sold me an old fender guitar claiming it was 100 pct original, but it was not. It was refinished, there where new parts in the guitar and the decal new just mention some of the things we found out while having it checked through - so basicly no chance to know if this was ever a Fender at all. I called him to confront him and asked him to return the deal as it is illegal to sell something that it is not. He became aggresive and accused me of swopping the body of the guitar with another, which is plain stupid as we both have pictures of the guitar before and after I bought it. And he disconnected the call.
I also have emails from him saying that he personally checked everything inside which is a lie as I have documentation from specialists saying the opposite. I find that honesty is such an important thing when it is about trading and buying these old guitars. We buy them because we love them and we play them as much as we can.
I liked Oliver when we met and he was nice when I handed over all my money to him. But confronting him with the mistakes, he showed a different face of dishonesty, agression, greediness - someone who straight up lied to me in order to sell me something that I really wanted. It is not cool. I cannot recommend buying from this guy. And if you do check it through completely, like I should have done there on the spot
PS, if I could avoid the one star. This is a zero star review.
RESPOND TO POST FROM GUITAR SMITH ON SEPT 6th 2023
Oliver, you do not check the guitars thoroughly. You told me on the phone, when I called you some weeks ago that you were told by previous owner it was all original when you bought it, is that being thorough? It has been two years, and trusted you with the rest, I mean why should'n I? That was blind by me.
Now two years after I wanted to sell it and had it checked before doing so, not to make that same mistake as you have done and it was full of mistakes, mistakes that are very contradicting with what you have told me in person, on email and on the phone.
And please stop saying we like you are a big instrument dealer and stop mentioning honesty. You got very angry when I kindly and calm called you and told you that the guitar was not what you sold it as, which is against German law. This is not transparent, it is lying. I have an email from you saying that it is 100 pct original, and now you write over all original. How do you explain that?
Like I told you on the email which you chose to ignore, my lawyer is going to reach out to you and then we are changing ball game, which is super sad - especially for you and your business.
